Beauty Hacks

Hacking- the gaining of unauthorized access to data in a system or computer.

Life Hack- A strategy or technique adopted in order to manage one's time and daily activities in a more efficient way.

"Hacking" has many definitions and they can either have a positive or negative connotation to their meaning. Someone can hack a beauty brand or an influencer and gain access to their information or post offensive language on their social media accounts to lessen their amount of followers and loose respect to their name or brand for various reasons. Beauty hacks on the other hand are ways to use, or rather misuse products to make application easier and sometimes even more fun. These are popular all over Instagram and Youtube and they are most popular in the beauty and fashion industry.

Jeffree Star was hacked last year and had information on his Sephora account leaked about him by a Sephora employee. She gained access to his phone number and exposed not only how many points he has on his Sephora card, but how much money he spent at Sephora. The employee also attempted to sell this information. This made Jeffree loose trust in how Sephora handles their privacy protocols.

On a lighter note, Beauty hacks are great and creative ways to apply makeup and honestly they're just fun to watch. The most popular hack I can think of is before the Beautyblender era, people were soaking their makeup sponges in water to apply and Beautybleder began to advertise using their sponge damp. Personally, I don't use any other beauty hacks in my daily application but I do have nights where I binge these videos on Instagram for 3 hours (you know you've done this before.) And some of the videos are laughable because of how crazy the hacks can get, like the one where a girl uses scissors as a template for her eyeliner... Who would put a blade that close to their eye? I've poked my eye with a liner pen before, I couldn't imagine how that would feel with scissors.

All in all, hacking is a big deal now in this social media savvy world and it depends on the context as to if it is a good or bad thing. We just have to remember that there will always be bad people in this world, and technology will continue to enable them.
