Interview answers:
-
Who is your favorite beauty influencer on social media?
-
Tati Westbrook
-
-
Why do you choose to follow them?
-
I love how she does mostly natural makeup with a little glitter on the eye. Her looks are perfect for my comfort zone.
-
-
What do you like about them?
-
Her skin is beautiful and she is so good with face makeup to make it look natural.
-
-
Why do you choose them over others?
-
Because she is so thorough in how she explains what she is doing. She’s perfect for people who don’t always do makeup – her channel is dummy proof.
-
-
Do you think he/she influences how you do your makeup or how you choose to pick your favorites brands/ influencers?
-
Yes, I love to try and recreate her looks since I am newer, it helps me refine my own skills. I also trust a lot of her recommendations with brands and other influencers since she is my favorite.
-
-
Which platform do you prefer to use for makeup? Why?
-
YouTube – I need a full 15 minute video explaining how to do makeup so I don’t get confused.
-
-
What is your favorite makeup brand? Why?
-
Morphe – There are so many eyeshadow palettes and face products for a cheaper price in case I don’t like them.
-
-
How do brands and influencers use creativity with social media?
-
I really like when influencers and brands come out with creative products. That’s another reason why I love Tati, she has the really innovative eyeshadow palette with different textures of the same colors and the Blendiful which is a completely new idea.
-
-
Describe a good example of makeup creativity
-
I like when people do their makeup inspired by characters. I really like Harley Quinn makeup.
-
-
Describe a not so good example of makeup creativity
-
When an influencer gets into a routine and it's boring to watch multiple videos of them.
-
-
How do you feel when a brand or influencer takes a break from social media because they feel burnt out?
-
I think it’s fine, if they need to take a break then it’s just like a vacation in a normal job.
-
-
What techniques do you use when you are burnt out with makeup or end up in a routine?
-
I watch different makeup tutorials, like Jefree Star or Nikki Tutorials because they are more vibrant than Tati.
-
-
Would you say that there’s a type of makeup routine that is popular? If so, describe it.
-
Yes, the “full beat” with a lot of powder and winged eyeliner and nude lipstick.
-
-
Do you think that influencers and brands stick to that style to gain followers?
-
Yes it seems like sometimes influencers and brands don’t go outside of that. It’s rare to find a real natural makeup routine and I think it is to gain followers since it is so popular
-
-
Are influencers and brands more popular when they think outside of the box?
-
I don’t know. Maybe the problem is that consumers like the same style so that is why it is so popular and that style always gets attention.
-
-
How do you feel about the over saturated beauty world on social media, is it good that people can express themselves or is it difficult to find genuine makeup artists due to monetization?
-
It’s overwhelming, I don’t really know who I should listen or take inspiration from because there’s so many different people making makeup content.
-
-
As a consumer, what do you look for in a brand or influencer?
-
Something universal. I want to find one really good influencer and brand that offers a lot of different things that I can buy and watch so I don’t have to go to too many others. It’s easier that way.
